NPDES Discharge Monitoring Reports May Soon Be Filed Electronically

by JONATHAN RINDE
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") reports that, as a result of a grant to the Environmental Council of States, it has developed a web-based tool, called NetDMR, that allows holders of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System ("NPDES") permits to submit Discharge Monitoring Reports ("DMRs") to permitting authorities electronically. States which have been delegated NPDES permitting authority do not have to use NetDMR, but may request to use it. EPA estimates that annually, 100 Million dollars could be saved by industry, states and the federal government upon full implementation of NetDMR.
