States, Federal Government Focus on Alternative Energy Initiatives

by DARRYL BORRELLI
This year will likely continue state and federal initiatives focusing on reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Innovative uses of coal, including liquefaction, gasification, and waste coal and clean coal technologies, and the increasing production of ethanol products, will likely lead the field of alternative energy technologies. Tax incentives, subsidies, and grants will continue to spur alternative energy projects, with a variety of grant monies available for development of nacent technologies. We will continue to assist our alternative energy clients with siting, permitting, and compliance issues as well as obtaining available public financing.
